Using Telephone Advertising
When done properly, incorporating telephone advertising into your on hold productions can be a great on hold strategy. Most people that call your company are probably a) already a client or b) interested in becoming your client. In terms of your music and messages on hold, this means you have a captive audience already interested in your products or services . . . an advertisers dream!
If you have a product or service to sell, we highly recommend incorporating them into your on hold scripts and including a “call to action” with any telephone advertising. This call to action might be “Ask a representative for more details” or “Visit our website to place your order today.” By incorporating both the product or service being advertised with a call to action, your on hold audience is much more likely to take action on your telephone on hold content.
Telephone advertising definitely works. We have heard from many that said their on hold productions paid for themselves after callers ordered a product or service they heard about on hold. In addition to increasing sales on products or services mentioned in the music and messages on hold, some find that their existing clients make inquiries and purchases on products or services they were not aware of until they heard about them on the telephone on hold content.
Lastly, telephone advertising is an important component to your on hold productions, but it should not be the only focus. Make sure your music and messages on hold also focus on reassuring and relaxing callers, and providing useful information to them. You do not want your production to sound like a sales pitch.
