Music On Hold Wav

The music on hold wav is used occasionally in IP music on hold systems.  Because music on hold wav’s can be distributed online (by email, ftp or online file delivery services), they do not require a physical product such as a tape, cd or digital card to be shipped.  This results in easier and less costly transfer of your on hold music files.

Players such as the ProDigital PD USB60 and the OHP 8000 made by On Hold Plus, do not support music on hold wav and instead support music on hold mp3 transfers via their standard usb flash drives.  In fact, most of the manufacturers of music on hold devices we listed have current music on hold players that use mp3 exclusively for transferring and storing your on hold music.  As a result, the main instances you will see music on hold wav files used is in Virtual PBX, VOIP or IP music on hold or on select music on hold software.

If you are not familiar with what an wav file is, it is simply a file format for storing audio digitally.  Music on hold wav files for IP music on hold are often in a specially encoded and compressed form.  8 bit, 8 khz ulaw is one particularly common music on hold wav file format.  This type of wav file often needs to be converted to from an original cd quality wav file (16 bit, 44.1 khz).  Many on hold companies will have the software in place to convert standard wav files into whatever specialized version your IP music on hold or virtual pbx system requires.
